'Supernatural' 9x22 Recap: Gateway To Hell

May 14th, 2014 11:20am EDT
Supernatural
With only one more episode left before the season finale, "Supernatural" offered flashes of mayhem before the storm hits with next week's finale. "Stairway To Heaven" focused on the ugly decisions that must be made in times of war, and thanks to a side of sizzling, uber-violent Dean, angelic suicide bombers, and a dozen one-liners, it made for an entertaining albeit frustrating hour of television.

Grab a giant ice cream sundae, and let's dive in, shall we?

Throughout the episode, each side of the angel-angel-human conflict somehow states that they're doing what they must, w...

Curtis Armstrong Turns Delightfully Bad As 'Supernatural's' Meta
Curtis Armstrong's played the world's angriest man and one of its most popular nerds; now he's taken things to a whole other level as the disgruntled angel Metatron on The CW's Supernatural. BFTV checked back in with Curtis last week to ask him about playing the hit show's current Big Bad and the fantastic year that he's had.

Season 9 of Supernatural has been all about the aftermath of the angels falling from Heaven, so basically everything over the entire year can be blamed on Metatron. What was it like for Curtis to discover just how much he was responsible for? "It's certainly a great s...

'The Vampire Diaries' Season 5 Episode 21 Recap: 'Promised Land'

May 9th, 2014 9:08am EDT
The Vampire Diaries - Promised Land
Michael A. Allowitz’s direction in the teaser, or perhaps more credit is due to the editor of “Promised Land,” was effectively jarring. The Travelers took Stefan and Elena at the end of last week’s episode to drain more of the blood to use in the spell that’d break the magic spell and eliminate witches’ powers, the vampire magic, the hybrid magic, and all that fun. Markos cuts Elena deeply in the wrist, four days into the blood-letting, because she wants her to bleed until she can’t speak. The woman from last week that tried to kill Jeremy in act to save her boyfriend’s life frees Stefan an...

'Supernatural: Bloodlines' Review: Spin-Off Is A Monstrous Mess

April 30th, 2014 9:54am EDT
Supernatural: Bloodlines
In what has to be the most belated opportunity in television history, the CW's sci-fi show "Supernatural" finally got its spin-off with "Supernatural: Bloodlines." It debuted as a backdoor pilot that's positively stuffed to the monstrous gills with new characters, tragedies, daddy issues and few moments of "Supernatural's" whiskey-soaked charm.

Backdoor pilots seem like a good idea on paper: target 100% of the original show's audience by having the characters stumble into a related but dynamic universe that leave the viewers wanting more. However, most are rushed, unbalanced and choppy...

'Supernatural' Season 9 Episode 19 Recap: Mama Dearest

April 23rd, 2014 10:15am EDT
Supernatural
"Supernatural" may be one of the only television shows with just two stars in Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, however, it has amassed an arsenal of recurring characters that rivals the Impala's trunk armory. In "Alex Annie Alexis Ann," the brothers let badass Sheriff Jody Mills take step up to the plate and knock it out of the park in an episode that was as brutally emotional as it was just plain brutal.

The episode's cold open is an amuse bouche that teases the awesome gore-and-angst-fest that to follow. A "near feral" runa...

In the fickle word of entertainment, it's rare when a television show makes it through its first season. 'Supernatural' Season 9 Episode 18 Recap: Spoiler Alert!

April 16th, 2014 10:55am EDT
Supernatural
"Supernatural" is notorious for not only breaking the fourth wall, but demolishing it with a sledgehammer and a wicked smile. This week's episode, the beginning of the end of season 9, follows in that same tradition using the uber-villain Metatron as the narrator, and treating his manipulations like the calculated whims of a writer.

Grab your favorite ascot and let's dive in, shall we?

Welcome Back, Cas!

Castiel's trenchcoat is a sight for sore eyes. He's still bravely moving trying to help all the angels he can with his stolen grace that has rendered him unable to fly. A warbli...
