How Did J.K. Simmons Do As Host Of 'SNL'?

February 1st, 2015 2:47pm EST
JK Simmons and Kenan Thompson
J.K. Simmons is the presumptive Oscar favorite this year for Best Supporting Actor. It is appropriate that he is in the Supporting field, considering that he has spent a few decades as a character actor, elevating the quality of his projects, no matter what the size of his role. Interestingly, though, his role in "Whiplash" is prominent enough that it could be considered a Lead. He certainly has the talent and charisma to be a star, but this episode mostly kept him confined to the supporting roles that he is used to. He was perfectly fine in them, but he could have done more. And in the few...

Eddie Murphy Returning To 'Saturday Night Live' For First Time I
Eddie Murphy is set to return to "Saturday Night Live" for the first time in over three decades.

The comedian, who was a regular player on the show from 1980 to 1984, will appear in the show's upcoming 40th Anniversary special, which is set to air next month.

Unlike dozens of former cast members who have gone back to host the show since departing, Murphy is one who never made it back to the show's New York City studio to serve as host, and he says it's simply because of scheduling conflicts.

"It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it," he tells NewsOne.com's Rol...

'Saturday Night Live' Season 40, Episode 12 Recap: Blake Shelton

January 25th, 2015 11:20am EST
Saturday Night Live
The last time a male country music star hosted “SNL,” the results were a lot more interesting. The thing is, Tim McGraw has much more acting experience than Blake Shelton, and thus he was a lot more comfortable branching out from his country persona than Shelton was in this episode. “The Voice” judge mostly stuck to variations of himself or generic roles. This was fine for ensuring a show that ran smoothly, but it also prevented his appearance from being a truly memorable one.

Inside the NFL – This take on the New England Patriots deflated ball scandal made the weird decision of focus...

Blake Shelton Calls Himself 'The Justin Bieber Of Country Music'
Blake Shelton took over hosting duties on "Saturday Night Live" and quickly set himself apart from the pack of other country superstar hosts such as Taylor Swift and Dolly Parton.

"The Voice" stated in his opening monologue.

"Yes I have been drinking. For those of you that don't know my work I am kinda like the Justin Bieber of country music. Just a trouble-making cutie," he said.

"I have to say that I do feel like a fish out of water here in New York City as everything is so fancy. The only comedy show I watched growing up was 'Hee Haw,'" Shelton explained.

Shelton then threw an improp...

Be careful what you wish for. If you are a devoted "Arrowhead" like me, you may have been aggravated that the handsome and gigantic Diggle (David Ramsey) doesn't get to fight crime in a kickass costume. Sadly, that wish will be granted in upcoming episodes of "Arrow." With Oliver dead, Diggle will continue h...

Is 'The Biggest Loser' Torturing Its Contestants?
Kai Hibbard has a lot to thank "The Biggest Loser" for- after being a contestant on the NBC reality series, she went from 265 lbs to a mere 144, losing 121 lbs on the series.

But Hibbard's not thankful- she's speaking out against "The Biggest Loser," and telling the world of the heinous conditions she underwent as part of the show's weight loss program.

In speaking to the New York Post, here's some of the terrors Hibbard revealed.

Contestants had to sign contracts forbidding them to speak ill of "The Biggest Loser" (is Hibbard breaking that right now?).

Contestants were trapped in ...

Jennifer Lopez Plays Catchphrase With Her Butt On 'Jimmy Fallon'
It was an average night on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon." Jennifer Lopez was Jimmy Fallon's guest. Nothing seemed out of sorts, really.

Until Fallon brought out the official "Tonight Show" game of Catchphrase. Little did anyone know that Lopez, and her world-famous butt would soon be unleashed upon the upon the world.

Ok, maybe it wasn't as serious as all that, but it was still pretty serious. The game of Catchphrase began, with Fallon and Lopez on one team, and announcer Steve Higgins and actor Anthony Mackie ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") on the other.

Both Lopez a...

'Saturday Night Live': Kevin Hart Does Not Disappoint With Musical Guest Sia

January 18th, 2015 8:58am EST
'Saturday Night Live' Recap: Kevin Hart Does Not Disappoint With
The recurring sketch-lite Season 40 had its most original episode yet for the first show of 2015, with not a single repeat bit or character, save for Kate McKinnon’s Justin Bieber impression. The best seasons tend to have a decent mix of recurring and original material, so while it is nice to see the “SNL” team coming up with plenty of fresh ideas, they might be wearing themselves too much. Luckily, Kevin Hart was on hand to host for the second time, and there are not too many other comedians who can keep the energy level up like he can, and he did not disappoint in that department. Mean...
