TV on DVD: 'Melrose Place: Sixth Season, Volume 1'

May 3rd, 2011 4:05pm EDT
Melrose Place
Here's a blast from the past. Today CBS DVD releases the first half of the sixth season of the original Melrose Place. It's thirteen episodes from 1997 over three discs, and I have a look inside the set for you.

The Show

Full disclosure: soap operas and I do not mix. I'm just not a fan. That said, I actually watched parts of this season of Melrose, because it's the year that one of my favorite actors of my youth (that's Linden Ashby) joined the cast. If you've seen Beverly Hills, 90210, of which this show was a spinoff, you know what to expect...just with a focus on adults instead of ...

One Life To Live
After last week’s announcement by ABC Daytime about the cancellation of long running and beloved soaps, 'All My Children' (AMC) and 'One Life to Live' (OLTL), I posted an article to the soap fans on my site, Red Carpet Closet entitled: 'Soap Fans, What the Heck Happened?' Well, they came out in droves and I heard them loud and clear. It is no secret that fans of the genre are notoriously supportive of the shows and the actors. So how did such a rapid decline in the ratings happen? One name kept coming up again and again as a reason for their demise: Brian Frons, president of Daytime f...

Brianna Brown: Busy And Loving It

February 8th, 2011 9:10pm EST
Brianna Brown
Brianna Brown is good at keeping herself busy – sometimes in spite of herself.

The energetic actress, a Twin Cities native who landed in Hollywood over a decade ago, is currently enjoying the success of her most recent role, Dr. Lisa Niles on ABC’s ‘General Hospital.’ She took over the part early last year in what she calls a ‘Fatal Attraction’ storyline. Her arc piqued so much interest it helped the storyline to be named Soap Opera Digest’s best of 2010.

In a phone interview, the witty Brown fondly describes Lisa as “just really manipulative.” It’s a departure from her earlier roles...
