'Empire' Recap: 'Dangerous Bonds' This Means War

February 5th, 2015 9:45am EST
Empire
The fifth episode of “Empire” played out like a high-intensity chess match and only two people could claim check mate: Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Andre. The two with little to no moral compass, go figure. Their schemes got Hakeem and Jamal exactly where they wanted them to be, at war.

The episode kicks off with TaKeem waltzing down the red carpet. They're being interviewed by a reporter, who unsubtly tells Hakeem he would be nothing without his father. Not so far-fetched a theory considering his grind mode. Tiana sticks up for him and shows a surprising amount of affection in the limeli...

'Grey’s Anatomy' Recap 'Where Do We Go From Here'

January 30th, 2015 7:44am EST
grey's anatomy
Happy New Year, “Grey’s” watchers. The TGIT withdrawal has finally been lifted and we’re right where we left off. Derek’s more gung ho than ever to go to D.C., even at the risk of breaking his post-it note marriage vows. No matter, Meredith chucks the symbol of their commitment—the framed post-it note—in the trash. Shattering it in several pieces. (BTW nice touch with the intro, ShondaLand.)

The overarching theme of “Where Do We Go From Here” is adjusting to trauma. But the first step is getting over the shock. Meredith is proactive; she interviews a nanny that will more or less take Derek...

'Empire' Recap 'False Imposition' Cookie And Lucious Unleash Their Vulnerabilities

January 29th, 2015 10:26am EST
Empire
It’s nice to know behind the heavy makeup, ostentatious bling and loads of other materialistic excess there are beating hearts (and, for some even souls) inside the wolf pack that makes up “Empire.” How do I know? Because we watched them bleed in the most recent episode, “False Imposition.”

The fourth episode opens with Lucious (Terrence Howard) giving Hakeem another stern talking to about getting serious about his craft, being in the studio more, one upping his brother, yada, yada, yada. Speaking of Jamal, we have word he’s been cast off to the boondocks aka Bushwick, Brooklyn. Poor Dora ...

'Empire' Recap: 6 Pearl-Clasping Moments Of Showdown - 'The Devi
Heavy is the head that wears the crown and Lucious’ (Terence Howard) throne was really tested in “The Devil Quotes Scripture;” third episode of “Empire.” It’s him versus the world. And the world being a pesky manager, a disloyal ex-wife and rebellious son. We countdown the six most shade-worthy showdowns in “The Devil Quotes Scripture.”

“Now, Who Needs Protection”

Within the first 15 minutes of the episode Lucious is threatened by one of his artist’s (Veronica, the bald-headed balladeer we were introduced to in the pilot episode of “Empire.”) manager. The confrontational manager sticks hi...

'Empire' Recap: No Apologies - 'The Outspoken King'

'Empire' Season 1, Episode 2 Recap: No Apologies - 'The Outspoke
If secrets were tombstones the Lyons’ family would inherit several cemeteries. And if Lucious (Terrence Howard) had his way he’d keep them all six feet under, alongside Bunkie (RIP, buddy). It’s a good thing we’ve got Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) snooping for answers, on her iPhone to uncover her boss’ three year life expectancy. Some skeletons have to creep out.

Lucious’ secret is safe for now, but how long before Cookie’s shocking reveal as a snitch for the Feds is uncovered? Judging by next week’s promos, not long.

Let’s jump into the second episode of “Empire.” “The Outspoken King” ep lau...

Cookie's 5 Scene Stealing Moments From FOX's New Drama 'Empire'

January 14th, 2015 1:39pm EST
Empire
Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) came in like a storm cloud over Lucious Lyons’ (Terrence Howard) music “Empire”, vowing to “take back what’s hers.” And the mink-clad, potty-mouthed, possible niece to Mr. ‘Godfather of Soul’ Brown has no qualms about her H.B.I.C. takeover. In the words of Lucious, “the queen has returned.” Watch how she holds court…and demands respect.

Long Overdue Mama Beat Dow

Cookie waited 17 years in jail, do you think she’ll wait 17 minutes to see her youngest son, Hakeem (Bryshere Gray)? Uh, uh. So, Hakeem’s shape up and side-eyed barber be damned, she storms in out of l...

‘Law & Order SVU’ Midseason Finale

December 11th, 2014 9:08am EST
Law & Order SVU
Welcome back, SVU-viewers. Is it just me or did those two weeks on hiatus feel like two years? Now that we’ve seen every holiday-based SNL made, we’re back to NBC’s regularly scheduled "Law & Order SVU" show about sex crime scenarios, or what I’ve been nicknaming it lately “Ripped from the Headlines: Real Life Sex Crime Re-enactments,” but on a serious note the midseason finale covers a topic that should be in more headlines: backlogs of rape kits that go uninvestigated throughout the country.

Given the amount of sexual assaults happening, if you read daily papers, it’s definitely a releva...

‘Grey's Anatomy' Recap: 'Second Chances'

November 14th, 2014 9:20am EST
Grey's Anatomy
In “Grey’s Anatomy’s” penultimate episode “Could We Start Again, Please?” the docs tackle whether or not second chances are deserved for present and past mistakes.

The episode opens with a pre-teen Derek studiously reading while his lil sis Amelia plays close by at their dad’s general store. Then in walks a thug with a gun that he aims at Derek’s dad head.

Back to present day where Meredith and Maggie are hustling to treat incoming patients that were in a burning house. To kickoff the episode of penance Mer apologizes for being MIA for her own dinner party last night. Maggie shrugs it off...

‘Law & Order SVU’ Recap: ‘Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D. Crossover’

November 13th, 2014 10:31am EST
Law & Order SVU
The much hyped “Chicago Crossover” episode of “Law & Order SVU” has finally landed on our TV screens. Was it worth the money in advertising? Eh, maybe if you’re a “Chicago P.D.” fan. Picking up where the Chi-town firefighters left off on “Chicago Fire”—firefighters uncover some child porn pics in a burning house that could be traced to New York and “P.D.” detective Lindsay’s half brother is one of the victims—SVU squad finds the stills are connected to a live stream site put up by a child sex trafficking ring. The Feds attempt to take down the site, but are thwarted by the pedophilia membe...
