CD Review: Various Artists - 'Punk Goes 90’s 2'

CD Review: Various Artists - 'Punk Goes 90’s 2'
The thing about Punk Goes 90’s 2, the 15th (yes, you read that right) installment of Fearless Records’ long running Punk Goes… series and second in the Punk Goes 90’s line, is, as with the majority of, if not all, its predecessors, a potpourri of mixed results. However, in the case of Punk Goes 90’s 2, the results are more often than not positive. For starters, Get Scared plays things close to the vest on Lit’s “My Own Worst Enemy,” as does the Color Morale on Foo Fighters’ “Everlong.” This approach doesn’t always work however, as Mayday Parade (Bush – “Comedown”) and Yellowcard (Smashing P...

CD Review: The Hotelier - 'Home, Like Noplace Is There' (Tiny Engines)

CD Review: The Hotelier - 'Home, Like Noplace Is There' (Tiny En
Perhaps it’s the new album or the new label (Tiny Engines) or maybe it’s the new name, but the Hotelier, former The Hotel Year, have never sounded better than they do on their sophomore release Home, Like Noplace Is There. And that’s really saying something considering how strong, and utterly criminally underrated, their debut album, 2011’s It Never Goes Out, truly was. Though the subdued but thoroughly aptly titled opener “An Introduction To The Album” is a bit off-putting in terms of initial impact, what the track lacks in punch it makes up for in emotional output, spewing forth mainly fr...

Blink 182 At The Red Bull Soundstage Concert Review And Encore (Video)

November 8th, 2013 1:48pm EST
Blink 182
“It’s way too early to play rock music,” Mark Hoppus announced to the amped up crowd. It was 11:45 a.m. on a Thursday and for most bands it’s far too early in the day to be awake let alone play a six song set. But for Blink 182, comprised of Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker, and their dedicated fans at the KROQ Red Bull Soundstage, it was the perfect time.

The Red Bull Soundstage is a small room only fit for a few hundred people, allowing for an intimate musical atmosphere that most fans will never get the experience. Ever since the dinky office space was transformed into a rocking s...

Get To Know Texas Punk Rockers American Fangs

November 4th, 2013 2:15pm EST
American Fangs
Punk rockers American Fangs are striving to take a bite out of music. The guys who love loud guitars and the Keanu Reeves flick Point Break are hitting the road this winter, and before then, frontman Gabe Cavazos dialed up BFTV to explain what it is they think they're doing.

First of all, just like you don't judge a book by its cover, don't judge this Houston-based band by its name. "This may not seem important, but for us I think the band name can kind of be misleading. I think that people immediately think it's something a lot more aggressive than it is," Gabe explained. "We're kind of a...

Gypsy Punk Rules on Gogol Bordello's 'Pura Vida Conspiracy'

July 26th, 2013 10:15am EDT
Gogol Bordello: Pura Vida Conspiracy
Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello make being different pretty cool and hip. Let’s face it, gypsy-punk is not your everyday style of music, particularly when conformity and uniformity seems to be an ‘it trend’.  However, Gogol Bordello is exactly what the music industry could use more of to provide spice and more unpredictability. Following up previous album Transcontinental Hustle (2010), Pura Vida Conspiracy doesn’t miss a beat.  Intriguing, manic, ambitious, and über-enjoyable are some adjectives that describe the listening experience.  Frontman Eugene Hütz is pretty awesome.  Add an intensi...
