Forgotten Friday Flick

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Men At Work'

September 12th, 2014 12:20pm EDT
Nothing beats the fall bad movie blues better then a colorful comedy, so this week we’re doing the nasty by wading through the garbage to find a diamond in the roughage... welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! This time out we’re diving headfirst into a lesser known comedy featuring work by two brothers who have chemistry down to a science. And in this outing the two strip away the glitz and glamour and get down and dirty as two uninspired sanitation engineers – garbage men to the layman. Before the Ducks got a coach and long before someone was ‘winning,’ Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen w...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Love Potion #9'
With Oscar season just around the corner, a myriad of great films and more importantly knockout performances hopefully are on the way. So we thought we’d take some time this week to celebrate some stellar early acting work long lost but not gone of an Oscar winner – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Today’s flick is a funny tribute to the regular guy and gal and what a little chemical help can do to enhance a personality of those more socially challenged. Love, chemistry and an experiment gone wrong - all in the name of comedy. Need some help in your love life? How about some..."Love ...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'The Principal'

August 29th, 2014 12:45pm EDT
Since demand for good movies at the end of summer is tough, we felt it was time to fight fire with fire with our own hard hitting selection to end the season off right – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Today’s blast from the past puts a notorious funnyman in the hard guy hot seat and pits him against a school of baddies looking to protect their turf and rep. When hard luck high needs someone to clean up the hallways who do you call? Who else..."The Principal."

Rick Latimer is a drunk and it’s not hard to understand why. He’s works as an uninspired job as a high school teacher, sha...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'The Girl Next Door'

August 22nd, 2014 11:18am EDT
The Girl Next Door
With "Let’s Be Cops" still holding its own at the box office, we thought we’d take this opportunity to look back at Cops Director Luke Greenfield’s past work and there’s a hidden gem waiting to be brought to justice...welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Today’s selection seems on the surface to just be a steamy salacious romp, but nothing could be further from the truth. Cool comedy, colorful characters and surprisingly real romance are at the heart of a film that frankly deserves its due. I remember the 2004 film..."The Girl Next Door."

Matthew Kidman is a high school senior with ...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Zero Effect'

August 1st, 2014 11:30am EDT
Zero Effect
With the genuinely unfunny and uninspiring "Sex Tape" continuing to limp at the box office, I felt it was time to remind folks of the genius side of Tape director Jake Kasdan and in turn give some love to a past flick that has unfairly been given lukewarm status...welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick! Today’s selection is one of my all time personal favorites. A combination of an incredible screenplay, decent direction and some career best performances, it’s a film that fell through the cinematic cracks and truly earns the right to be called a hidden gem. Quirky detectives, captivating blac...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Happiness' - With Philip Seymour Hoffman

February 7th, 2014 10:45am EST
Actor Philip Seymour Hoffman passed last Sunday and the cinema world has lost a great talent. And since his body of work is filled with so many amazing performances and memorable characters, I thought I would pay tribute to the work of the man by highlighting the one film I consider to be the best of the bunch – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick. This week we take a look at the world through the skewered mind of writer/director Todd Solondz via a sick, twisted and delightfully funny flick that had both critics and audiences aghast. Taking on taboo subjects like pedophilia, sexual repress...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer'

January 17th, 2014 1:30pm EST
She slices, she dices and throws in the occasional cheer to boot – welcome to...Forgotten Friday Flick!  Today’s selection is for some a mere shadow in the face of a more involved and evolved series, but for yours truly it was a film experience like no other.  Taking multiple genres, lovingly blending them with a witty sensibility and topping it off with some of the best actors of the time (Ben Affleck cameo alert!), this 1992 film was a pleasure for all who experienced its bloodthirsty wares.  Love, death and a few fangs – we’re taking "Buffy the Vampire Slayer."

Buffy is a typical high...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Night Of The Comet'

September 6th, 2013 10:10am EDT
Night of the Comet
Can a flick with tasty ingredients like killer zombies, lethal scientists, insane stock boys and two rough and tumble Valley gals with a sense of style fill a memorable movie burrito?  It can if you’re in the 80’s – welcome to...Forgotten Friday Flick.  Today’s quirky selection has it all; from Uzi sporting cheerleaders to Tempest playing tough girls (with a little freebie shopping in between!) this one successfully uses everything in its cinematic arsenal to entertain.  We’re flying back to the decade of high hair and pop music to witness first hand the..."Night of the Comet."

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Highlander'

June 7th, 2013 3:20pm EDT
Since the releases this week appear to be not only the weakest of the summer season, but also not exactly action filled, we thought we’d add a little immortal swordplay fun to the upcoming weekend.  There can be only one – welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick.  The selection this week has a little something for everyone.  The guys get cool action, the historians some medieval battles, the gals some romantic angles and for the bullies you got one mean mother looking for your head.  Welcome Conner MacLeod of the clan MacLeod – the..."Highlander!"

Russell Nash is a man who has seen lifeti...

Forgotten Friday Flick - 'Moon'

April 19th, 2013 1:50pm EDT
With the space dud and copycat flick "Oblivion" hitting theaters this weekend it seems a perfect time to go back to the film it borrowed from most.  Only instead of a weak one and a half stars it’s five-star stuff...Welcome to Forgotten Friday Flick!  Not going back too far, we’re heading to 2009 for a little film that said so much.  An unusual outer space tale that focused much more on the human condition and less on mindless space spectacle.  Featuring a career making performance and announcing the arrival of a new and unique voice from the filmmaking front lines we’re gladly heading to.....
