If you’re a fan indie rock or the live music scene at large, you will like this film. If you’re a fan of Radiohead’s Meeting People is Easy, you will like this film. If you are a fan of The National, you will really like this film. And if you find the Zach Galifianakis brand of humor funny, not only will you love this film, but you should mark it down as a must see.
Granted, Galifianakis is nowhere to be found in this 80 minute rockumentary, but his doppelganger is surely manifested in the form of one Tom Berninger, whose much-older brother Matt happens to be the lead singer of the band. T...

"It was just too special not to really pursue," said Gabrielle Wortman of what led her to form the duo Smoke Season with Jason Rosen. The pair are celebrating the release of their first EP, Signals, and an upcoming online performance on StageIt this Sunday, April 28. Both artists had their own individual careers - Wortman with her electronic alter-ego TEMP3ST and Rosen formerly a member of the band Honor Society - but came together in late November as a team.
Jason called the new project "sort of a happy accident. I ended up moving on from Honor Society and I sort of went right into Smoke ...

Before the release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, Phoenix were the best kept secret in music. The band had already released three fantastic albums, and with their third, It’s Never Been Like That being the most radio friendly of the bunch, it seemed like Wolfgang would finally be the album to break the group into the mainstream, and it in fact was. Singles “Lisztomania” and “1901” were huge hits, and the group secured spots headlining various music festivals and numerous late night television show appearances.
Four years after the release of Wolfgang, the follow up Bankrupt! is now out and i...

The tragic outcome of last week's Boston Marathon bombings is still fresh in the minds of many who are suffering, yet there are some individuals ready to capitalize on it by shocking an already vulnerable populace into a state of confusion.
Amanda Palmer, former member of the Dresden Dolls, a two-man group hailing from Boston, is not known for her ability to fade gracefully into obscurity. In an interview with SPIN, she said "I hate being ignored" though she isn't lacking in publicity, unless you exclude the negative kind. She's been criticized most recently for hosting a crowd-sourced, mi...

Yeah Yeah Yeahs “Mosquito” April 16
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have had a few brushes with mainstream success in the form of singles like “Maps” and “Heads Will Roll,” but on their latest release they sound more edgy and experimental than ever, yet manage to also be completely entertaining and engrossing at the same time. It’s clear from this record th...

There was cause for concern when James Blake announced that his second album was titled "Overgrown." Blake has always been famous for his sparse sound, with layers of sound existing so far apart that the distance can practically be measured with a yard stick. Despite the album title, though, Blake has retained his signature sound, and only really minimally expands on it here; delivering a very solid second record that may lack surprises, but makes up for it in terms of overall sound quality.
Blake has always straddled the lines between dubstep and R&B, and his fragile voice brings to mind ...

You'll be seeing Nora Kirkpatrick in many places. The actress-musician is not only appearing in a multi-episode arc during the final season of The Office, but she's about to hit the road as the accordion player-keyboardist-vocalist in Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. BFTV recently checked in with Nora to talk about how she mixes acting with music, what fans can expect on the band's tour, and what she loves the most about herself.
"Music and acting have both always been a huge part of my life equally in tandem, and I can't really imagine my life without one or the other," she confided....
