The Graduate (1967)
Directed by Mike Nichols. Starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, Katharine Ross, William Daniels, Murray Hamilton, and Elizabeth Wilson.
In the film that made Dustin Hoffman a star, the glum and despondent Benjamin Braddock is being pushed in a multitude of directions by his friends and family after having just graduated from college. Feeling confused and directionless, Ben allows himself to be seduced by an older, married friend of the family. Of course that person is none other than the world-weary femme fatale, Mrs. Robinson. As the film progresses, Ben learns how to lose and regain himself in love and he is taught that he is the one who is in charge of maneuvering the course of his life. "The Graduate," which became an emotional criterion for disaffected youth, is a classic coming-of-age film whose appeal and popularity continue to endure.
