Slideshows Hot or Not? TV Recaps Fashion Interviews Celeb Birthdays
In using the word to its fullest, this is a small section for the cultural geographers, architects, interior designers, theater and film set designers, etc. who never get their own 'space' films list. These films have used space to the best stretches of their imagination to keep audiences riveted.
The majority of the film, outside of a few establishing shots and shots of phone calls, is set in a small, luxuriously cramped apartment. This is unnoticeable if you are not looking for it. Alfred Hitchcock's talent with manipulating space keeps this film from being claustrophobic.
Another of Hitchcock's famous films, like the one above, space is treated like its own character within the film. Here, the viewer feels as trapped as James Stewart's character, L.B. Jefferies. Grace Kelly's performance in both of these films is a good tutorial for actresses today who take on roles in suspense films.
Like the above films, most of the film takes place in a small area. In this case, it is an incredibly small motel room. Ashley Judd makes sure you feel as trapped and claustrophobic as her character. For those who have avoided this film because of the subject of bugs in its title and the film's trailer, trust us on this one - you are safe.
This British comedy came in under the radar in 2007. About 99% of the film takes place in a single house for a single event, a funeral. If you are not laughing during the opening credits than clearly you lack the ability to laugh. If you are not laughing and/or crying at multiple points during the film, well, than you may possibly be a robot.
More films to check out: Vacancy, Misery, Four Rooms, Titanic, Gaslight, Revolutionary Road and The 'Burbs.
