Lesson 4: Remember to laugh
Reason: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home

Star Trek has always been a bit silly--just look at Tribbles. Several episodes of Star Trek have dealt with problems controlling populations of these small, sentient balls of fur. After three serious films, Star Trek IV takes pressure off by sending the Enterprise crew to 1980s San Francisco to save humpback whales from extinction.

Judging by early glimpses of Star Trek, it seems that the new film doesn't slow down enough to allow for much comedy to shine through. Much of the humor from the original crew derives from Spock's exasperation yet relative indifference with illogical human emotions-Zachary Quinto's Spock just looks angry about everything. Then again, with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz star Simon Pegg stepping in as Chief Engineer Montgomery Scott, it's doubtful things will stay serious for too long.
