Red Planet vs. Mission To Mars (1998): We like Jerry O'Connell, but he's no rocket scientist; yet, that's exactly what Mission to Mars expected audiences to believe! The year was 2000, and the box office went where no man has gone before - twice. O'Connell, Gary Sinise and Tim Robbins visited the fourth planet from the sun a full eight months prior to The Red Planet's Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore and Carrie-Ann Moss stumbling onto the rock-strewn surface. Mission made 3.5 times the box office of its rival, but nobody really emerges the victor here.

Bottom Line: One giant leap for neither, one quick step down to DVD wasteland.
