John Lennon - In 1971, outspoken activist, visionary and former Beatle John Lennon asked the world to "Imagine… Nothing to kill or die for." A beautiful dream, but not the reality: On December 8, 1980, a fanatic named Mark David Chapman decided he had something to kill for and he shot Lennon outside his New York apartment building. The following day, Lennon's widow Yoko Ono released a statement: "John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him." Lennon posthumously won the 1981 Grammy for Album of the Year for his last solo effort, Double Fantasy. Chapman remains in prison to this day and Lennon's vision of a world at peace is yet to be realized.
