The Hills Have Eyes
There's always someone at a tiny gas station in the middle of nowhere; this time we're in the New Mexican desert again; who either warns you not to take a certain route; or in the case of a remake, knows of a shortcut that will get you where your going a lot faster than the main route. But as we all know, either route will put you on the path to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Horror master Wes Craven came up with a story about a bunch of mutant cannibals who live in the hills of a desert and murder anyone who comes through their "shortcut". Craven's original came out in 1977. The frightening 2006 remake is your typical blood and limb fest that centers on a vacationing family (Ted Levine, Kathleen Quinlan, Vinessa Shaw, Emilie de Ravin, Dan Byrd & Aaron Stanford) who takes the shortcut. Bad move. Fortunately in this day and age more and more people are investing in GPS units, this way there's no longer a need to trust strange folks at gas stations in the middle of nowhere when they tell you about an unknown shortcut that will 'get you there faster'.

Cannibals always live in the deserts of the southwest though, don't they...
