Master thespian Mike Tyson wants to take his acting ambitions to the next level by tackling the works of William Shakespeare.

The former boxing champ has been carving out a career in TV and film since retiring from the ring, landing a string of cameos in esteemed projects such as The Hangover, Entourage and Scary Movie 5.

Now, he wants to perform in plays by the Bard, and is eager to kick-start his stage career by landing the lead role in Othello.  He tells the New York Daily News, "Wouldn't Shakespeare be awesome? That black guy... could you imagine me in Othello?"

Several big Hollywood stars performed on Broadway this year but many weren't recognized during the 2013 Tony Award nominations announcement - Scarlett Johansson, Katie Holmes, Bette Midler, Al Pacino and Alec Baldwin were snubbed. Those who did receive top nominations included Tom Hanks, Nathan Lane, Tom Sturridge and Cyndi Lauper.

'Rocky' Musical Headed To Broadway

Academy Award-winning film Rocky is headed to Broadway after a deal was reached to bring a musical version to the prestigious New York stage.

Sylvester Stallone, who wrote and starred in the 1976 film, gave Germany the first look at the musical in November to positive reviews.

According to the New York Times, the Broadway show will cost $15 million to produce, after a $20 million in development fees to bring the show to Germany first.

Critics have hailed Bette Midler following Wednesday's opening night of "I'll Eat You Last: A Chat With Sue Mengers." The actress plays the real-life star, who died in 2011, in a new one-woman play from "Skyfall" screenwriter John Logan.

It's Midler's first appearance on Broadway in 30 years. One of Mengers' clients, Faye Dunaway, was in the audience along with singer Sting, music mogul David Geffen and actress Ellen Barkin.
