Disturbed Tops Billboard 200

Disturbed Return To a Familiar Place – No. 1 On The Billboard 20
Disturbed shocked the world this week – NOT! The popular rock band debuted at #1 for a fifth straight time with Immortalized, their first new album in five years. The numbers weren’t sexy per se, but the 98,000 units were enough to seal the deal atop the Billboard 200. Still, isn’t it a shame that no album was able to move 100,000 units for a second straight week? It’s not 42,000 units level of tepidness that Descendants endured, but still.

Disturbed weren’t the only debuts to land within the top 10 of the Billboard 200. Country singer Kip Moore quietly bows fourth with Wild Ones to th...

Luke Bryan Stays At No. 1

Luke Bryan Makes It Two Weeks Atop Billboard 200
It’s hard to topple a king, and that’s exactly what country singer Luke Bryan is this week. After dropping Kill The Lights with robust numbers last week, Bryan manages to keep the top spot warm for a second consecutive week. No, he couldn’t score another 345,000 units, but he was good enough for another 99,000. Sophomore week blues happen to everybody, even when you’re a “Country Man” like Bryan.

So with Luke at the top once more, were there any newbies that debuted in the top 10? Yes. Melanie Martinez entered at #6 with her unique debut effort Cry Baby moving 40,000 units. The numbe...

Billboard 200 Sees Some Big Numbers

Luke Bryan And Dr. Dre Bring Some Much Needed Life To the Billbo
Last week on the Billboard 200 charts was a pitiful one. In case you missed it, the soundtrack to Disney’s made-for-TV movie Descendants debuted atop the charts, moving a tepid 42,000 units. Ouch! Such abysmal numbers are not the case for this week though, and music executives everywhere should be taking victory laps in the regard – preferably like in Blues Brothers.

Moving on, Luke Bryan unsurprisingly secured the top spot this week, easily dropping 345,000 units of Kill The Lights. While Bryan didn’t sell 345,000 copies, most of those according to Billboard were pure sales (320,000 o...

Why Is A Disney Album Tops On The Billboard 200?

Disney's 'Descendants' Soundtrack Takes Top Honors On The Billbo
Let’s just cut right to the chase – it was a BAD week for album sales. Honestly, record companies should NEVER let a week like this happen again. Unless you’re a total Disney TV movie fanatic, this week’s number one album will totally surprise because of its unfamiliarity. The soundtrack to the Disney TV movie Descendants takes the top honors on the Billboard 200. Go ahead and let the gasping commence...

Even though Descendants managed to “score” where peak position is concerned, its impact and sales are tepid to say the least. Descendants mustered up just 42,000 units and that doesn...

Jill Scott’s 'Woman' Is A Triumph For R&B

Jill Scott Makes It Two Consecutive No. 1 Albums On Billboard
R&B has triumphed atop the Billboard 200 for the second time this year! Is it a total change of pace for commercially ailing genre? Jill Scott follows her first #1 album, 2011’s Light Of The Sun with a second one with Woman. Woman didn’t match the higher-flying sales of Light Of The Sun, but Scott’s first album in four years certainly has performed better than most of her contemporaries’ R&B efforts. 62,000 units is by no means “the second coming,” but it’s respectable considering the number of albums that have tanked this year (yeah you Jamie Foxx and Ciara).

Jill Scott wasn’t the sol...

Musicians continue to make chart history in 2015 despite lackadaisical sales in many cases. Future’s sales were by no mean lackadaisical this time around as DS2 (Dirty Sprite 2) debuted commandingly at #1 on the Billboard 200. No, Future was unable to move the same numbers of contemporaries like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, or Meek Mill, but his 147,000 units is his best career week yet. Even in sales alone, 121,000 copies according to Billboard, he more than doubled his start for his 2014 effort, Honest.

What gives with Future’s come up? That’s a good question! Interestingly, as Future is...

Tyrese Lands His First No. 1 Album

Tyrese Takes 'Black Rose' To The Top Of The Billboard 200
Sigh, yet another musician has seen his dreams realized on the Billboard 200. Although pure sales and lucrative chart longevity have only been kind to some, a number of artists have landed their first number one album this year. Add Tyrese to the list, as Black Rose earns the Billboard 200 crown this week. The 81,000 units isn’t the sexiest total ever, but, for an R&B album, that’s great. Why? – Because R&B has struggled with commercial lucrativeness all year and Black Rose gives the genre its highest impact and first number one album in 2015. Sweetening things more is that most of the...

Ricky Ricardo said it best on I Love Lucy – “Ay-yi-yi-yi-yi!” The mouthful of a title should explain it all – all the confoundedness that is. Apparently an updated Billboard chart is upon us already… HUH? How? WHY! Well, good old Billboard essentially released their first chart of their new tabulation cycle.

Basically, to recap, all new music releases across the world are embracing a global release day – Fridays. Because the former new release day was Tuesday, the Billboard charts were centered around that particular day to accurately tabulate sales and streams so on and so forth. So to...

What does all this mean? Well, this is the last Billboard chart update that takes place on Thursdays. So let’s all celebrate the final Billboard 200 update on Thursday with yet another artist celebrating his first #1 album.

Meek Mill put up some excellent numbers with his sophomor...
