CD Review: Concord America - "Suns Out Guns Out" (Post-Echo)
Part Weezer, part Black Keys, but all cool would be an astute way to describe Concord America’s Suns Out Guns Out EP. Another way to describe this album is, well, just plain cool. While Suns Out Guns Out on the whole is an explosion of fuzzed out quirky indie rock – mind the latter - rock (the monstrous riffs of “Vanilla Bastard” are not to be missed, “Crown Vic” is sheer garage inspired madness). “So Gay” is the purest of diamonds in the rough; a hit single lying in wait that could impact at radio tomorrow if given the chance, and the fun doesn’t stop there on Suns Out Guns Out. There’s al...

CD Review: I Can See Mountains - "Gone Beachy"
As fate may have it, rumors of the demise of Buffalo’s quirky powerpop merchants I Can See Mountains have been greatly exaggerated. After playing what many thought to be their farewell show last December, band members Matt Cox and Kevin Hoffman have emerged from the depths with a new EP in Gone Beachy, a three song release that heaps loads of sunshine upon listeners. From the massive opening riff of “My Aquatic,” which features the infectious wordplay and idiosyncratic songwriting that made the band a fan favorite in the first place and the bouncy call-and-response of the Blink-182-esque “S...

The 25 Best Albums Of 2014 (So Far)
2014 has been filled with some exceptional music, and of course some duds to (no shade Robin Thicke). Impossible to include, listen, or review all of them, here is a list of 25 of the best albums, at the midway point of 2014 (January until June). Sounds For Summer: "Fiona Coyne" Saint Pepsi

July 9th, 2014 2:00pm EDT
Saint Pepsi : Fiona Coyne
It'd be easy to argue that Degrassi's most memorable character was Jimmy Brooks, mostly due to the fact that he was portrayed by a young Drake who has gone on to be one of the more influential figures in R&B.

Ryan DeRobertis, under the moniker of Saint Pepsi, has now presented us with the fact that it may have instead been Fiona Coyne, a rich socialite from Manhattan (where DeRobertis originates from). The song fits her image perfectly: smooth disco funk riffs reminiscent of what was found on Daft Punk's last record blend with a bouncy bassline and DeRobertis's fantastic vocals.

Miley Cyrus Stars In Controversial Flaming Lips Music Video About LSD

Miley Cyrus Stars In Controversial Flaming Lips Music Video Abou
Former Disney star Miley Cyrus isn't one to shy away from controversial topics, so her appearance in the new Flaming Lips video for the appropriately titled "Blonde SuperFreak Steals The Magic Brain," is no stretch.

The video is essentially a trippy tribute to the drug LSD. The band's singer Wayne Coyne said that the song was originally intended to have a reference to LSD. He revealed, "We were lucky enough to get a couple of hours with a bedridden Miley Cyrus. And even though she was still quite ill, she was full of laughs and great absurd suggestions."

The video centers around Miley ...

30 Best Songs Of 2014 (So Far)
2014 has delivered a wealth of exceptional new songs. Some songs truly captivate with their songwriting, while others are ‘records’ which standout because of their sound. Choosing only 30 songs out of a sea filed with truly terrific songs is difficult; this list provides 30 of the best songs from January through June 2014.

1) Sam Smith, "Stay With Me"

from In the Lonely Hour

Maybe he’s ‘too emotional’ and 'sucks at one-night stands' as he sings, but Sam Smith can definitely sing – that’s the understatement of the year. The soaring, highly relatable “Stay With Me” exemplifies Smith’...

Alternative Music Spotlight: Penguin Prison

June 27th, 2014 7:00pm EDT
Penguin Prison : Penguin Prison
Chris Glover is the sole man behind what is perhaps New York City's goofiest and most fun pop group, Penguin Prison, a project that stands in stark contrast to his more emotionally charged contemporaries like Passion Pit and Phoenix.

Even the name Penguin Prison is goofy, and it's clear that Glover doesn't take himself too seriously, which is probably the reason that his most well known song is "Don't F**k with My Money," a song that's both laugh out loud hilarious and unbelievably catchy, and avoids being a gimmick because of it's immaculate production and it's absolutely perfect vocal ho...

Alternative Music Spotlight - St. Lucia

Alternative Music Spotlight - St. Lucia
While there is certainly no shortage of 80's inspired synth pop bands out there at the moment, few are as brilliant and purely enjoyable as St. Lucia, the stage name and band of South African pop wizard Jean-Philip Grobler.

The band's masterful self-titled record is filled with tracks that pay tribute to Grobler's Afro-pop heritage, and brings to mind 80's afro influenced pop records by greats like Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, and Sting.

Every chorus is massive, and tracks such as "The Way You Remember Me" and "Closer Than This" are sublime, filled with pulsing drums, huge harmonized choru...
