Review: 'The Hangover Part III' - Someone Forgot The Funny

May 23rd, 2013 4:00pm EDT
The Hangover Part III
I judge how good a comedy is, by how much I laugh, as well as how much the audience laughs...or doesn't, as was the case last night, sitting in the theatre, watching 'The Hangover Park 3'.

It's been two years since our guys...Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms) and Doug (Justin Bartha) have had any encounters with strippers, weird tigers, monkeys, gangsters or drugs.  In fact, they are all happily married and living the good life in suburbia.

The only member of the Wolf Pack who doesn't have his life together is (unsurprisingly)...Alan (Zach Galifianakis.) And now, he's off his meds. He...

The boys of Starfleet are back: Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), Scotty (Simon Pegg), Chekov (Anton Yelchin), Bones (Karl Urban), Sulu (John Cho) and Uhura (Zoe Saldana).

The film opens with the USS Enterprise on a observation mission to Planet Nibiru. When they arrive at the planet they find a volcano on the verge of erupting and wiping out its primitive inhabitants.

In the process of launching a dangerous mission to halt the eruption, Spock's life is jeopardized, forcing Kirk to break the 'Prime Directive' and reveal the Enterprise to the inhabitants.

Bad move: Not only...

'Iron Man 3' Review: Our Super Hero Is Back & He's Better Than Ever

May 3rd, 2013 7:32am EDT
Iron Man 3
Mr. Iron Man needs a Xanax. He gets panic attacks, how cool is that?

Our super hero has major angst and that's what makes him so lovable and so very human.  That, and of course Robert Downey Jr., who once again brings the brilliant, brash, billionaire, inventor, Tony Stark aka Iron Man to life on the big screen and he absolutely KILLS it!

What makes "Iron Man 3" so unique is that it's not only the culmination of the first two films, but it's also a follow-up to 'Marvel's "The Avengers" - making it a sequel to two different movies.

In ''The Avengers," Stark faced a world-changing event, t...

'Pain And Gain' Review: Michael Bay Gives Us Lots Of Pain, Not So Much Gain

April 26th, 2013 1:26pm EDT
'Pain And Gain
I am so not a Michael Bay fan.  I find everything he does to be way over the top.  Bay doesn't seem to trust his story or his characters and his latest film, 'Pain and Gain' is no exception.

'Pain And Gain' is the true story of Miami's Sun Gym gang, which was made up of three super violent, super inept, body builders, who decide the best way to get rich quick, is to kidnap millionaires and milk them out of their fortune. Now why haven't I thought of that?

It's the 90's and the three muscle bound jerks are Daniel Lugo (Mark Wahlberg), born again Jesus coke freak, Paul Doyle (Dwayne Johnson...

Review 'Oblivion': An Engrossing Sci-Fi Thriller That Won't Leave You Oblivious

April 19th, 2013 7:27am EDT
Oblivion
After not seeing a movie for almost three weeks, Two Jews On Film are back and once again and disagreeing.

Our first film, since leaving the beach for the mountains, is 'Oblivion' directed by Joseph Kosinski, based on his unpublished graphic novel.

This sci-fi visually spectacular action movie stars Tom Cruise as Jack Harper, a super pilot, super lover and all round 'super guy.'

The year is 2077 and life on Earth is non-existent. Sixty years ago some really nasty aliens, known as the Scavengers, destroyed our moon - no moon plus no water and no food equates to: not a good thing at al...

Review: 'Olympus Has Fallen' Loud, Violent, And Familiar (Video)

March 22nd, 2013 7:30am EDT
Olympus Has Fallen
As I was watching this film I kept thinking about 'Die Hard.'

'Even though 'Die Hard' was set in a hotel and 'Olympus Has Fallen' is set in the White House, the two films have a great deal in common…Terrorists take hostages - they make outrageous demands and only one man can stop them.

In the former, we have Bruce Willis as our hero (the man who can do what no other human on earth can do). In 'Olympus Has Fallen' directed by Antoine Fuqua ('Training Day') we have Gerard Butler or Bruce Willis light.

Of course that's just my opinion. I just don't find Butler's acting all that interesting,...

'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone' Unfortunately Isn't All That Incredible

March 15th, 2013 7:29am EDT
'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone'
I love magic. When I watch a good magician, I feel the wonderment of a five year old. Too bad I didn't feel that way while watching 'The Incredible Burt Wonderstone', directed by Don Scardino and written by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley ('Horrible Bosses').

Unfortunately, the story is one you've seen many times before. Superstar is an egomaniac. He treats everyone like dirt. Then overnight, he loses everything... His best friend/partner, his money, his career and hits rock bottom.  It's here that he develops humility and learns what's really important in life.

The superstar in...

'Oz The Great And Powerful' Is Not Great, But It's A Lot Of Fun

March 8th, 2013 7:00am EST
Oz The Great And Powerful
'We're off to see the Wizard...The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz'...except...

In Sam Raimi's 'Oz The Great and Powerful' he's not exactly wonderful or a wizard.

In fact he is Oscar Diggs (James Franco) a 3rd rate circus magician/con artist, who escapes from Kansas in a hot air balloon, only to land in the beautiful, magical Land of Oz.

There, Oscar meets the beautiful witch Theodora (Mila Kunis) and her older sister, Evanora, (Rachel Weisz) who rules over the Emerald City.

When the sisters mistake Oscar for the wizard that the prophecies foretold would come one day and save Oz from the forces ...

Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum 'Jack The Giant Slayer' Is Great Family Fun

February 28th, 2013 7:00pm EST
Jack the Giant Slayer

For those who managed to get through childhood without hearing the story of Jack, a farm boy who sold his horse for some magical beans, don't worry… Director Bryan Singer has recreated the story with some added touches in the new 3D IMAX film, entitled 'Jack the Giant Slayer.'

Once upon a time, a race of giants were exiled from the Earth to a land far, far, in fact, really far away, known as Gantua. Seems these big guys were into ravishing the Earth, instead of living peacefully with us humans.

It's been over a th...
