Can Taylor Swift End Her Grammy Dry Spell?

June 2nd, 2015 8:00pm EDT
Will Taylor Swift Ever Dominate The Grammys Again?
Will Taylor Swift win another Grammy? Hmm, the posed question seems almost ridiculous when you think about the success that the country/pop artist has experienced from a young age, but since winning the coveted Grammy for album of the year for Fearless back in 2010, Swift has experienced quite a dry spell. The question is, is her pop album, 1989 too big to be ignored by the Grammys come 2016? Let’s backtrack a little before speculating about the future.

In 2010, Taylor Swift’s profile was greatly elevated. Kanye West had acted like a total ‘you-know-what’ and from the shameful incident, S...

A new month (June) and a truckload of new releases – literally! June opens with a number of musicians looking to share their latest creations with the world. Arguably, the packed field is headed by the return of Florence + The Machine, but the others are all “in it to win it” too. Here are eight albums to check out.

1) Florence + The Machine, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful (Island)

Florence Welch, aka Florence + The Machine, ret...

Martina McBride Slams Country Radio

May 29th, 2015 8:04am EDT
Martina McBride Slammed With Sexist Remarks: Her Response? 'Wow.
Never refer to Martina McBride (or any female country music star, for that matter) as a "tomato." Or assert that "if you want to make ratings in country radio, take females out."

That's what a recent issue of Country Aircheck did, and now they're paying the price: scathing criticisms from nearly every female country singer out there (and men, too).

In a rebuttal on Facebook, McBride fought back against Country Aircheck's suggestions. "Wow.....just wow. Just read this from a major country radio publication. How do you feel about this statement?"

And as for the claim that women don't liste...

Rihanna
What’s in a N-A-M-E – “That is the question!” Within the 25 songs on this random playlist comprised of songs featuring name in their title, the simple, everyday word takes on numerous meanings and interpretations. Regardless, after diving in to this list, you’ll know every single one of these songs and artists’ names!

1) Shawn Mendes, “I Don’t Even Know Your Name” (Handwritten, 2015)

How Successful Was Zac Brown’s Jekyll + Hyde Debut?

Zac Brown Band, JEKYLL + HYDE © Republic
Another week, a different #1 album – isn’t that how the old saying goes? After Alabama Shakes topped the Billboard 200 last week, this week country band Zac Brown Band takes over the top spot. Unsurprisingly, Zac Brown Band did work, as Jekyll + Hyde impacted to the tune of 228,000 units, with nearly 94% of those ‘units’ being sales. There was never any doubt that Zac Brown Band would come out on top as the closest competition, Josh Groban’s Stages, lands at #2 with 180,000 units, with nearly all of those comprising of sales. So in essence, the Billboard 200 is top-heavy this week.

New Album Releases To Check Out This Week

Mumford & Sons Leads Albums To Check Out
April was a slower month for new album releases across the board. It wasn’t quite like “watching paint dry,” but there was an absence of blockbuster releases with staying power. A perfect example of the lack of staying power – Shawn Mendes’ Handwritten debuted at #1 and proceeded to fall to #17 the following week. May is much more promising from the jump, as there are many notable releases dropping on an off-cycle May 4 (Monday) release date. Leading the charge is Mumford & Sons, but they are by no means the sole attraction this week.

1) Mumford & Sons, Wilder Mind (Glassnote)

Alabama Shakes’ Sophomore Album Rocks To The Top Of The Billboar
Alabama Shakes have great reason to celebrate as their sophomore album Sound & Color tops the Billboard 200 this week. Sound & Color didn’t exactly break sales records with the 91,000 copies it sold (96,000 overall units per Billboard), but it was enough to give the rock band its first number one album and best sales week. Alabama must be proud!

Alabama Shakes’ album was definitely the most popular of the week, but Yelawolf got some love this week too. And guess where he’s from – Alabama! After his debut album Radioactive flopped, Yelawolf’s sophomore set Love Story debuts at #3. Of ...
