Review: 'Nobody's Smiling' Is Common's Best Album In Years

Review: 'Nobody's Smiling' Is Common's Best Album In Years
Cutting straight to the chase, Common, one of the Midwest’s preeminent MCs, delivers his best album in years with Nobody’s Smiling. Standing only 10 tracks deep (13 on the deluxe version), Common has delivered nothing short of a moody, meaningful tour de force that should get every rapper on his toes. Featuring exceptional production from NO I.D. and a couple of solid collaborations, Nobody’s Smiling has the goods to erase frowns of which it references.

“The Neighborhood,” featuring Lil Herb and Cocaine 80s, kicks off Nobody’s Smiling mysteriously and moody. James Fauntleroy’s voic...

Beetles Kill George Harrison's Memorial Tree
An infestation of beetles has killed a memorial tree planted in honor of Beatles icon George Harrison.

The pine tree was planted in Griffin Park in Los Angeles, Calif., in 2004, three years after the musician, guitarist, singer-songwriter died from lung cancer. It represented the star's love of gardening.

Unfortunately, bark beetles and ladybugs led to the 10-foot-tall tree's demise. According to the Los Angeles Times, officials plan on replacing the tree with a new one in the same spot.

Often referred to as "the quiet Beatle," Harrison released several solo albums after the legendary ba...

July 22nd, 2014 10:19am EDT
Marilyn Manson
"Sons of Anarchy" creator Kurt Sutter talked about casting rockers Marilyn Manson and Courtney Love during the Television Critics Association summer tour on Monday.

He explained how he likes to mix things up with surprising casting.

"I tend to do this every season, I like to do some casting that's a little bit outside the box, you know, from Stephen King to David Hasselhoff – we try to do stuff that's fun," he explained.

Manson's friendship with Sutter helped him land the role of Ron Tully, a white supremacist prisoner who Jax [Charlie Hunnam] uses to expand his power base.

5 Seconds Of Summer And Common Drop New Albums: This Week In Mus
July continues to be something of a slow month for new album releases. While there have been some solid, arguably even notable releases, no ‘blockbuster’ albums have been released. This week, the likely standout for younger listeners will be 5 Seconds of Summer, who release their full-length debut album. For rap lovers, they need look no further than the Midwest’s don, Common, who extends his lengthy career. Here’s 5 albums to check out this week.

1) 5 Seconds of Summer, 5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol)

Beyonce Teases Involvement With 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'
Over the weekend, Beyonce posted a 15-second "Fifty Shades of Grey" teaser on Instagram, prompting many to speculate about her involvement in the film.

The clip features a woman exhaling, followed by a man looking out a window (presumably Christian Grey) while he impatiently taps his finger, a woman's dress being pulled up her thigh, and a door opening as a version of Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" plays in the background.

It oozes sex.

It isn't the first time Beyonce has been linked to the film. In March, her song "Haunted" appeared in footage shown at CinemaCon. The extent of the pop star's...

Queensryche Rocked Loud And Hard At Empire City

July 21st, 2014 4:43pm EDT
Queensryche's Todd LaTorre
Queensryche rocked loud and hard and mesmerized the audience on the Empire City Casino concert stage in Yonkers, NY on July 20 with their wailing guitar licks, vocals and entertaining on-stage antics. This was my first concert at this outdoor venue, and it was definitely worth it!

For lead vocalist, Todd LaTorre; he's not only filling the shoes of former lead singer Geoff Tate, he's finally living his dream as a full-fledged rock icon.

LaTorre aimed to please; encouraging audience participation by enticing them to a sing-along while belting out many of Queensryche’s classic hits, includin...

You Touch My Tra La La : Gunther Is Back, With 'I'm Not Justin B
Some of you may remember 'The Ding Dong Song' that took Youtube by storm ten who years ago. It was jam packed with more sexual innuendos and half naked women than an HBO original series. It was done by the enigmatic and mysterious 'Gunther' - who became well known for his pencil mustache, mullet, duckface and sunglasses. If you don't remember, here's the video to refresh your memory.

There's something almost endearing about the whole music video. It's such a laughable parody of itself. Between Gunther and his eye-candy partners 'The Sunshine Girls' there's not really a single part of th...

Music Review: Weird Al's 'Mandatory Fun' Is A Blast

Music Review: Weird Al's 'Mandatory Fun' Is A Blast
When Weird Al Yankovic says that the ‘fun’ must be ‘mandatory’ on his latest album, he doesn’t lie. Mandatory Fun is exactly what it says it is – while and after listening, you must have fun! The parody king definitely delivers the goods across 12 tracks. There’s no ‘fails’ to be found, but some songs ring ‘golden’ from the jump.

“Handy” is a brilliant way to kick things off, with Yankovic parodying #1 hit “Fancy” (Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX). Among the most memorable lines include “I got 99 problems but a switch ain’t one” (verse two) and “Yeah check my big staple gun, my socke...

CD Review: Concord America - "Suns Out Guns Out" (Post-Echo)

CD Review: Concord America - "Suns Out Guns Out" (Post-Echo)
Part Weezer, part Black Keys, but all cool would be an astute way to describe Concord America’s Suns Out Guns Out EP. Another way to describe this album is, well, just plain cool. While Suns Out Guns Out on the whole is an explosion of fuzzed out quirky indie rock – mind the latter - rock (the monstrous riffs of “Vanilla Bastard” are not to be missed, “Crown Vic” is sheer garage inspired madness). “So Gay” is the purest of diamonds in the rough; a hit single lying in wait that could impact at radio tomorrow if given the chance, and the fun doesn’t stop there on Suns Out Guns Out. There’s al...
