John Fogerty Reworks Old Classics With New Friends On 'Wrote A Song For Everyone'
Former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman John Fogerty has teamed up with some of music's biggest names for his latest album, ""Wrote a Song for Everyone."
The new album, released on the singer's 68th birthday Tuesday, features collaborations with several artists on some of his biggest CCR hits, solo work, and even includes a couple of new tracks.
Guest stars include Foo Fighters on "Fortune Son," Miranda Lambert and Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello on the album's title track, and Kid Rock on "Born On The Bayou"; and culminates with a rousing rendition of "Proud Mary," featuring Jennifer Hudson and Allen Toussaint's Rebirth Brass Band.
Fogerty credits his wife, Julie, with coming up with the idea for the new album.
"She suggested getting all my favorite artists to do various songs, and it seemed like a great idea - to do fresh arrangements and interpretations of them," Fogerty told Reuters.
Getting all the talent for the new album didn't come easy, though.
"It's remarkably hard to get 14 different artists organized, as they're all busy with their own careers, touring and recording," he says. "Everyone wanted to do it but I had no idea it'd be so difficult."
The singer also didn't want new technology getting in the way of recording, opting to recreate the tunes in the studio the old fashioned way.
"I realize nowadays with the ease of digital that a lot of stuff gets made by emailing files around," Fogerty tells the L.A. Times. "I wanted it all to take place in the same room, kinda old school, as it were. And that's how it happened.
"And since we're in the same room at the same time, you're a collaborator even if you don't realize it."
Fogerty is set to hit the road in support of the new disc later this year.
