Nathan SykesBritish-Irish boy band The Wanted will continue with their promotional commitments without Nathan Sykes as the singer recovers from throat surgery.

The Glad You Came singer is scheduled to undergo, what some news resources are calling a career-threatening operation in Los Angeles on Thursday, the day of his 20th birthday, to repair a hemorrhaging nodule on his vocal cords.  According to Britain's The Sun, Sykes will be unable to talk for at least a month as he recovers from the procedure.

Rumors suggested the group would be cancelling all upcoming appearances while Sykes recovers from the procedure, however a representative for the band has now confirmed The Wanted will be pressing ahead without the singer.

A statement from the chart-topping band's publicist reads "We can confirm that The Wanted's Nathan Sykes will undergo specialist throat surgery on Thursday 18th April in Los Angeles and as such will be taking unforeseen hiatus from The Wanted. The priority for Nathan, his label and management is that he is given time to recover and receive the best treatment possible."

"The remaining four members of The Wanted will continue fulfilling the bands promotional commitments across the world."

A posted to the group's Facebook page read, "Our lil Nath has to go in for an operation on his throat, on his birthday to make him better. So please join us in wishing our brother and our friend well. Get well soon Nath, we love ya!"
