Scottish actress Kelly MacDonald is a mother again after giving birth to a son in her native Glasgow.

The Boardwalk Empire star and her musician husband Dougie Payne, bassist with rock band Travis, welcomed Theodore last year  but kept news of the birth under wraps.

The couple, already parents to four-year-old son Freddie, exceeded Scotland's 21-day legal limit for registering the baby's birth but no action will be taken.

MacDonald is not the only star to remain secretive about her new addition - British singer Adele also failed to register her baby within England's required 42-day time slot after giving birth last October, in an apparent bid to keep his name private.
