Norah Jones Breaks Her Silence On Her Father Ravi Shankar's Death
Jazz singer Norah Jones has broken her silence following her father Ravi Shankar's death on Tuesday, insisting the celebrated sitar player will be "greatly missed."
The Indian musician passed away in San Diego, California at the age of 92, and his wife of 23 years, Sukanya, and music composer daughter, Anoushka Shankar, have already taken to his official website to mourn their loss.
A post reads, "We were at his side when he passed away. We know that you all feel our loss with us, and we thank you for all of your prayers and good wishes through this difficult time. Although it is a time for sorrow and sadness, it is also a time for all of us to give thanks and to be grateful that we were able to have him as a part of our lives. His spirit and his legacy will live on forever in our hearts and in his music."
Now, Don't Know Why singer Jones, who was the result of an affair Shankar had with her concert promoter mother Sue Jones, has spoken out to express her grief.
A statement from the star to the Wall Street Journal reads, "My dad's music touched millions of people. He will be greatly missed by me and music lovers everywhere."
Meanwhile, the icon is set to be honored by Recording Academy bosses next year with a posthumous Lifetime Achievement honor at the Grammy Awards.
