News recently broke that Kimora Lee Simmons and Djimon Hounsou split up, and the former model has spoken out about the "hurtful" rumors surrounding the break up. She insists the two are "happy and loving" friends and parents.

On Wednesday the actor's representative confirmed the split, five months after rumors began circulating that they were no longer a couple.

Some speculated they broke up over a bitter fight about money, but Simmons came clear on Twitter. She wrote, "There have been quite a few hurtful rumors circulating. The truth is Djimon + I have been separated for some time. We have remained happy, loving, co-parenting friends + family. We all have much to be thankful for. Happy Thanksgiving."

Simmons and Hounsou began dating in 2007 and never married; however, they had a traditional commitment ceremony in the actor's native Benin the following year.

The couple has a son together, Kenzo, 3, and Simmons also has two daughters from her marriage to music mogel Russell Simmons.
