Jon Bon Jovi has taken aim at the producers of reality TV show Jersey Shore, accusing them of promoting instant fame and misrepresenting his home state.

The Bon Jovi frontman hails from Perth Amboy, New Jersey but he is no fan of the hit fly-on-the-wall program set in the state, which shows scenes of locals boozing in the streets and causing fights.

He is adamant the housemates featured in the show are not typical New Jersey residents, and he has criticized the program's bosses for contributing to the modern 'culture of fame'.

Bon Jovi tells British magazine OK!, "It's not my Jersey shore. I was there way before they were. We used to go down to the boardwalk all the time when we were kids, that was a cool place to go. People from New Jersey know that's not what it's like.

"I more resent that those shows create 'celebrities', that's bad. Some kid is struggling to write a song, or to be an actor or write a book, and kids want to get famous to be famous. I don't like that. It's really sad."
