Carly Rae Jepsen

Carly Rae Jepsen's hit track Call Me Maybe has been named the Song of the Summer by Billboard magazine.

The Canadian pop star's first single, which spent nine consecutive weeks at number one on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, topped the publication's list of popular songs from summer 2012.

The feat makes Jepsen the first artist to claim the title with a debut record since Katy Perry released I Kissed a Girl in 2008.

Perry appears in this year's top five with her track Wide Awake at number four, behind Maroon 5's Payphone at two and Gotye's Somebody That I Used to Know at three.

The top five is rounded out by Ellie Goulding's Lights.
