Johnny Hallyday is in a stable condition after suffering a severe case of persistent bronchitis.

Hallyday was airlifted to a medical centre on the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe on Saturday after falling ill while on holiday.

Early reports suggested the 69 year old was treated for heart problems, but Hallyday's producer, Gilbert Coullier, has explained the musician was simply suffering with bronchitis and was only transported to hospital as a "precautionary measure".

And it appears the star is already on the mend, with officials at the clinic making arrangements to transfer Hallyday out of the intensive care unit.

Hallyday's son David has taken to Twitter.com to assure fans his father will be fine.

He tweeted, "The news is good and that reassures us enormously."

This is the latest in a slew of health issues for the star - Hallyday fell gravely ill and checked into hospital several times in 2009 after a back operation in Paris left him in a critical condition, and last year he took legal action against a surgeon to determine whether the initial procedure was botched.
