After 18 years of being together, Bret Michaels and his girlfriend Kristi Gibson have called off their engagement.

Bret, 49, and Kristi, 41, got engaged two years ago on the final episode of the reality show "Bret Michaels: Life As I Know It." The Poison singer and Kristi have two daughters: Raine Elizabeth, 12, and Jorja Bleu, 7.

Over the years the on again/off again couple have been through a lot together, including Michaels' severe health issues. He survived an emergency appendectomy, a stroke, and a brain hemorrhage that nearly killed him.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Michaels has never felt completely committed to marriage and has been quoted as feeling "sweaty" about making the leap to husband and wife.

Michaels' rep told People, "Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters."
