Chuck Norris Doesn't Want Gay People In The Boy Scouts
Martial arts icon Chuck Norris is angry at the leader of the Boy Scouts of America, who recently vowed to "seek a change" regarding the organization's anti-gay stance.
Norris has also criticized gay rights campaigners for trying to overturn the group's "century-old policy" banning gay members.
The Boy Scouts' long-standing rules have come under scrutiny since lesbian Ohio mum Jennifer Tyrrell was kicked out in April as an adult leader of her son's Bridgeport troop. Bosses determined her sexual orientation "did not meet the high standards" of the group, and Tyrell's child was asked to leave too. Guilty by association, perhaps?
The organization's decision has angered the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community. Celebrity activists such as Julianne Moore, Ricky Martin and "Star Trek" legend George Takei have asked Boy Scouts officials to modernize its policies.
When Boy Scout leader James Turley suggested amending the regulations, Norris suggested the man was trying to gain favors with President Barack Obama.
Norris wrote, "Is Turley working on his own initiative, or has the White House prodded him with perks and favors?...I personally have known a host of Boy Scouts, Eagle Scouts and BSA leaders. These individuals epitomize the best of America. Indeed, the BSA is as integral a part of American life and culture as hot dogs, baseball and Grandma's apple pie."
