British rockers Coldplay are reconsidering the use of flashing wristbands at their concerts as the gimmick is proving too expensive.

The electronic bracelets are worn by gig revelers and light up in time with the music, filling venues with color as the band plays. The group debuted the effect in Madrid last Octoberand have since handed out up to 40,000 bands per concert.

Frontman Chris Martin now admits the group is having to rethink the spectacular feature as the wristbands are too pricey.

Martin tells Britain's The Sun, "Most of the money we're earning on the tour is put into the wristbands. We have to figure out how to keep it going without going broke because it's a crucial part of the concert."

The band considered collecting and reusing the devices but were warned against this by lawyers as they may carry disease.

Martin says, "You have to clean everything in case someone picks up herpes or TB. Our lawyers told us we'd get sued, and having been sued a few times we're not keen on that."
