Adam Yauch's Mom Says The Beastie Boys Star Was 'Courageous' In His Last Moments
The mother of Beastie Boys singer Adam Yauch has opened up about her son's "courageous" battle with cancer, insisting Adam remained hopeful right until he passed away.
The 47-year-old rapper, known as MCA, died on Friday after a three-year battle with the disease. Doctors discovered a tumor in his salivary gland in 2009.
The star was admitted to the hospital on April 14, but his condition deteriorated rapidly over the last two weeks. He died in New York City with his wife, Dechen Wangdu, and 13-year-old daughter, Tenzin, at his bedside.
His mother told the New York Times, "He was a very courageous person. He fought a long battle with cancer. He was hopeful to the very end... It all just seemed to happen overnight... He was a terrific guy and had a brief but really wonderful life. We are really proud of him."
