Rocker Ted Nugent has agreed a plea deal with prosecutors to avoid jail time for illegally killing a bear during a hunting trip.

The singer, who is an avid hunter, was accused of illegally killing a black bear during an outing on Alaska's Sukkwan Island in 2009 and transporting the dead creature out of the region.

The incident, which was filmed for his reality TV show Ted Nugent Spirit of the Wild, led to criminal charges and Nugent has now reached an agreement with prosecutors to plead guilty to one count of transporting an illegally hunted bear, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The plea agreement, which was filed in the U.S. District Court in Anchorage on Friday, states prosecutors will recommend a punishment of two years of probation, a year-long ban on hunting and fishing in Alaska and on any U.S. Forest Service lands, and a fine of $10,000.

Nugent is also required to film a public service announcement to air with his TV show to emphasize hunting regulations.

The charge of transporting an illegally hunted bear can carry a sentence of a year in prison.

A judge is expected to approve the deal at a sentencing hearing on Tuesday. Nugent will participate in the hearing via telephone.

It's been a tough week for the star - the staunch conservative was interviewed by U.S. Secret Service officials on Thursday after making fiery remarks about President Barack Obama during a National Rifle Association rally in Missouri.

He insisted he made no threats of violence against the leader after ranting about how fellow NRA members needed to rise up against Obama and the Democrats when America goes to the polls this year, adding, "We need to ride into the battlefield and chop their heads off in November."
