SoundgardenReunited rockers Soundgarden have recorded their first new tune in 15 years for the soundtrack of summer action blockbuster The Avengers.

In a statement, the grunge group admits it was flattered to be asked to record a song for the new Marvel film.

The bandmates says, "We've been hard at work on our new album, which will come out this fall, and when the opportunity arose to write an original song for Marvel's The Avengers film... we thought it could be a cool match."

Soundgarden have recorded the song Live to Rise for the soundtrack.

It's not the first time a member of the group has been part of a big film soundtrack - frontman Chris Cornell wrote and recorded the "You Know My Name" theme to Bond movie Casino Royale.
