Robert Redford has made an eye-opening documentary about the Colorado River to highlight the need for water conservation in the U.S.
The veteran actor teamed up with his son Jamie to make Watershed, about the unsustainable and growing demands placed on the Colorado River system, which runs from the Rocky Mountains to the Gulf of California.
In Watershed, which is narrated by Redford, the father-and-son duo argues that the river will soon be unable to provide for the millions of families who depend on it.
And Redford, a longtime eco-campaigner, hopes the film will serve as a stark warning about water depletion.
He tells Reuters, "The watershed issue is something that's happening all over the world, where the need for water is greater than the amount of water to provide for it. I think we're picking the Colorado River as an example of what's going on with watersheds all over the world and trying to focus on that and draw attention to it...
"There's a new water reality that people have to be aware of, and I think looking at the Colorado River as an example is what this film's about."
