Actor Jon Hamm was once asked to father a child by a friend who was desperate to have a baby.

The Mad Men star admits he turned down the request because he was unemployed and broke at the time, even though his pal told him he wouldn't have to be a part of the youngster's upbringing.

Hamm tells Fox411, "I have actually been asked to be a father by a friend who wanted to have a kid. It was kind of weird and out-of-nowhere and I said no."

"Mainly because I was totally unemployed, and I would feel so responsible, even though they said, 'Don't worry, no strings attached.'"

Hamm has been in a relationship with his partner Jennifer Westfeldt for 15 years and insists he has no plans to start a family of his own.
