Actor Russell Crowe has received an apology from officials at Richard Branson's fitness firm after he was rudely turned away from one of their gyms in England.
The Gladiator actor, who is currently in the U.K. shooting Les Miserables, was desperate for a work-out on Wednesday and contacted staff at the Virgin Active's Royal Berkshire Health & Racquets Club in Bracknell, England, who invited him to check out their facilities. But when he arrived at the fitness mecca, he was locked out because he wasn't a member.
The snub angered Crowe and he vented his frustration in a series of Twitter.com posts, calling the staff "Hoity toity (posh)" and urging Branson to "have fit/smart folk rep your brand".
His stinging comments appear to have caught the attention of Virgin Active bosses - a member of the company's public relations team has reached out to the actor to offer her sincere apologies for his treatment.
Crowe took to Twitter again late on Wednesday, to follow up, writing, "Nice email from pr lady @virginactiveuk. Think I'll just go where the regular folks hang GOLD's GYM in Camberly, friendly spot".
One of Crowe's fans even identified himself as an employee at the Bracknell club and invited the star to work out with him over the next few days - but the actor respectfully declined.
He replied, "Mate, it's just a gym. Lumps of metal to pick up. I'll go with the friendly vibe... Good on you for having the nuts to get in touch. You sound a decent bloke (guy). All the best."
