Scottish actor Gerard Butler has spent the last three weeks in rehab to address substance abuse issues, according to a report.
The star allegedly started struggling with pain medication as he battled to recover from injuries he suffered on the set of 2006 movie 300 and his problems were exacerbated after he was hurt in a surfing accident during filming of his latest project, Of Men and Mavericks.
He checked himself into the Betty Ford clinic in California three weeks ago to address his addiction issues, according to TMZ.com, and is now due to be released.
Butler, 42, has been open about his previous issues with alcohol as he gave up boozing at the age of 27 after realizing his habit had spiraled out of control.
He previously said, "It's been years now and it's like it never happened. I can't remember drinking. When I stopped I would look at a beer and think how great it would be. I'd get this pang in my stomach to go back out and have fun, but then I'd remember that I used up that right - that I did a full life worth of drinking between 14 and 27.'
"That I'd done enough drinking for half a dozen people. Now I have no connection with it."
