An autopsy on Whitney Houston's body found "no signs of trauma" or "foul play", according to the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.

The official results have been put on hold pending the completion of toxicology tests, which could take up to six to eight weeks to be released.

Coroner Ed Winter told a press conference on Sunday that an investigation into the tragedy is ongoing, but because the cause of death has been deferred, the star's family has been given permission to pick up her body and proceed with funeral arrangements.

Winter confirmed reports Houston had been found in her bath tub at the Beverly Hilton hotel, but refused to reveal any more details about the circumstances surrounding her death.

He told reporters, "There are reports she maybe was drowned, or overdosed, but we won't make a final determination until all the tests are in," adding that there were "no signs of trauma" and "no foul play is suspected."
