'The Artist' Leads 2012 BAFTA Nominations

Silent movie The Artist looks set to continue its winning streak after picking up a massive 12 nominations for the 2012 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

The critically-acclaimed film, which won a coveted Best Picture prize at the Golden Globes on Sunday, now looks set to dominate the U.K. film awards after the nominations were announced on Tuesday.

The Artist scored 12 nods in categories including Best Picture and Best Director for Michel Hazanavicius, as well as acting honors for its stars Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo.

British drama Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is another major competitor with 11 nominations, going up against The Artist for a number of awards including the Best Picture prize. The other nominees for the event's top award are The Descendants, Drive and The Help.

Dujardin will fight for the Best Actor award against Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy's Gary Oldman, Brad Pitt (Moneyball), George Clooney (The Descendants) and Michael Fassbender (Shame), while in the Best Actress category, Bejo is pitched against Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Viola Davis (The Help).
 
The winners will be unveiled at the prize giving in London on February 12th.
