'Tintin' And 'Boardwalk Empire' Lead VES Awards

The Adventures of TintinSteven Spielberg's The Adventures Of Tintin and crime drama Boardwalk Empire are leading the film and TV nominations at the upcoming Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards.

The director's animated adventure has scored six nods, with three in the Outstanding Created Environment in an Animated Motion Picture category.

Other movies to receive nominations for special effects include Captain America: The First Avenger, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and a host of sequels - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

In the TV categories, gangster show Boardwalk Empire leads the way with four nominations, followed closely by popular fantasy series Game of Thrones with three.

Comic book icon Stan Lee will accept the VES 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award, while visual effect pioneer Douglas Trumbull, who has worked on films including 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Blade Runner, will receive the Georges Melies Award.
 
The trophies will be handed out at a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 7th.
