The Roots drummer Questlove has been forced to notify chat show bosses at NBC of his song choices in advance after he was recently reprimanded for apparently mocking politician Michele Bachmann on air.
NBC staff are now vetting all set lists from the Late Night With Jimmy Fallon band after Questlove and his fellow musicians performed Fishbone's Lyin' A** Bitch as Republican presidential candidate Bachmann walked on to the show.
Questlove has since apologized for the incident but in an interview on Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club he insisted he would "let the snark fly."
He added, "They're not going to censor me. I would have done it for any politician."
Despite standing firm, the drummer is now required to clear all his choices with show producers to avoid further embarrassment.
In an interview with Associated Press, he said, "It's still a comedy show, so they promise not to step on my toes or that type of thing, but they definitely want to know the title of the song, the subject matter of the song - can it be seen as an insult?"
"It was kind of wrong of me to throw (NBC) under the bus without telling them what it was, so I understand from a business standpoint."
NBC bosses have since sent a written apology to Minnesota congresswoman Bachmann.
