Jimi Hendrix has been named the greatest guitarist in history by Rolling Stone magazine.
The revered music publication put the Purple Haze legend ahead of Eric Clapton and Led Zeppelin star Jimmy Page, who came in at second and third respectively.
A team of experts from the industry, including guitarist Tom Morello, came together with editors to decide their favorite guitar player for the poll, which was released on Wednesday.
Morello says, "Jimi Hendrix exploded our idea of what rock music could be: He manipulated the guitar, the whammy bar, the studio and the stage."
The countdown also features Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, Chuck Berry, Eddie Van Halen, Duane Allman and Pete Townshend.
