Sinead O'ConnorSinead O'Connor has written an open letter discouraging suicide, just days after going public with her own death wish on Twitter.com.

The Irish singer sparked fears for her health this week after 'Tweeting' a series of alarming messages, including "Now I wish I was dead, no hope," and "I wish suicide wud (sic) kill me. I want to go to heaven so bad."

O'Connor later assured fans she had no plans to take her own life, following a visit from cops who were notified of the worrying posts.

Now the outspoken star has taken to her official blog to post an open letter to "all people who occasionally feel suicidal", encouraging them to think twice before harming themselves.

She writes, "Why would 'God' want u (sic) to beat urself (yourself) up for wanting to die? Don't allow anyone near u who, when ur (you are) with them u feel bad about u. U haven't died. And that's what matters to God... And 'God' doesn't judge".

The "Nothing Compares 2 U" hitmaker also argues that it is OK to feel suicidal, as long as help is sought.

She adds, "I do believe suicide is a sin... It doesn't solve your problems... It's a permanent solution to a temporary problem. BUT it's ok to FEEL suicidal. That is most definately (sic) neither a sin nor a sign necessarily of madness... And it's not only ok but MANDATORY u SAY when u feel suicidal and ask for help."
