Dancing with the Stars executive producer Conrad Green has told E! Online that they "thought about" giving Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Carson Kressley a male dance partner. However, the producers thought it was not appropriate for the competition.

"We try to follow what happens in real ballroom competitions," Green said. "That was the original intention of the show. And while we are aware that there are same-sex couples, the competitions are usually mixed-gendered.

"It's a performance, like actors, so we don't think it's odd pairing up dancers with incompatible sexual preferences, but based off abilities."

The first version of "Dancing with the Stars" to feature a same-sex pair was in Israel, when two females performed together. The American show has had to defend itself over picking Chaz Bono, with users on its message boards claiming the show "has a gay agenda."
