Bon Jovi star Richie Sambora is handing out guitars to U.S. Marines after a friend introduced the rocker to a new fold-up instrument.
The Livin' on a Prayer hit-maker took the "knapsack guitar" on vacation with him and was impressed by the way the instrument kept its tune and now he has struck up a deal with the company behind the axe to hand them out to military musicians.
Ten lucky Marines stationed at Camp Pendleton in California will get autographed guitars direct from Sambora on Friday.
He says, "It really works, stays in tune... and I had this idea. I said, 'After travelling the world... you realize how important American freedom is... These guys need to take a little piece of home with them when they leave... Why don't we give this to the troops?'"
"They held a contest... and now the guys have something to do when they're not fighting."
