Rage Against The Machine rocker Tom Morello has predicted more riots will break out across the globe unless there is massive political upheaval.
The U.K. was hit with four days of unrest last week following a police shooting in London, and other countries in Europe have also seen rioting in recent years over mismanaged economies. And Morello is adamant disaffected youths will continue to take to the streets unless there is a huge shift in the way nations are governed.
The guitarist tells Kerrang! magazine, "It's a time of global unrest because the poor and the working class have clearly had enough. The world is not in the hands of people who deserve to run it and as long as the profit motive continues to be the political priority, the gap between rich and poor is going to grow, as will the unrest."
"When people have a bright future to look forward to, they don't riot in the streets. Rioting is the expression of those staring into the abyss and it can't be disassociated from the global situation we've witnessed in Spain, Greece, or the Arab world over the past 18 months.
"International poverty has been a powder keg ready to blow and the riots haven't surprised me."
