American rockers Journey have gone down in history - their hit Don't Stop Believin' has been named the number one single of the 20th century.

The group's catchy tune has seen a boost in popularity in recent years after the stars of TV musical Glee performed the 1980s track on its first season in 2009.

The band members performed live on the streets of New York on Friday as part of Today's summer concert series and they were presented with a special plaque to commemorate the feat, which was certified by analysts at media research company Nielsen SoundScan.

Friday was also a big day for fans of Eighties icons Debbie Gibson and I Think We're Alone Now star Tiffany - the pop duo entertained crowds at the city's famed Central Park for rival breakfast show, Good Morning America.
