Simon Cowell Still Wants Cheryl Cole For U.S. 'X Factor'
Simon Cowell is in discussions with U.S. TV executives to reinstate his British pop star protégée Cheryl Cole as a judge on the American version of The X Factor.
The music mogul fought hard to land the Girls Aloud star a place on the panel after she was a hit on the British version of the show. However, after wannabes auditioning in the U.S. failed to understand Cole's heavy northern English accent, she was allegedly dropped after just four days.
Cole has gone into hiding since the news broke, and no official statement has been released on the rumors - but now Cowell's publicist has revealed the Brit is doing everything he can to get Cole back on the show.
Cowell's rep Max Clifford says, "Simon's position is clear - he wants her to be on the show if that's possible. The reason Simon hasn't said anything is because he has been working to try and make sure she is on the show."
"But obviously there's other important people involved in this decision in America and they've all got to be happy. Hopefully the situation will be clarified as soon as possible, because it's been as clear as mud for the last week - but talking to him a couple of hours ago, I think that's a pretty fair summary of where we are."
"It's not a good publicity stunt and you don't need it. When you've got such a hot show and so much at stake you really don't need (this) because if it looks as if there's a weak link or problems, it doesn't excite and have the desired effect. Right now the last thing Cheryl Cole would have wanted would have been all of this."
It was reported that Cole had been replaced by Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger, who was originally hired to be the show's co-host.
