Brian wilsonBeach Boys star Brian Wilson has credited the Beatles' "Rubber Soul" album and marijuana for inspiring the iconic "Pet Sounds" recordings.

The "Good Vibrations" hitmaker hosted a listening party at his home when the Fab Four's 1965 album was released and he admits the music and the marijuana "took me away", and the ideas for "Pet Sounds" were born.

Appearing in Beatles fan Seth Swirsky's new documentary, Beatles Stories, Wilson recalls, "We were stoned... I went to the piano and started writing Pet Sounds. It (album) turned me onto Pet Sounds.

"It was a moment that will live forever in my heart."

The film also features anecdotes from Graham Nash, Peter Noone, George Martin, actor Sir Ben Kingsley and Ray Manzarek, who also got 'high' on the Beatles' "Rubber Soul" album.

The Doors star says, "There I was, on a classic LSD bummer. (I) went over to a friend's house. She said, 'Would you like to hear the new Beatles album...?' I said, 'No, I don't want to hear the mop-top fab teens...'

"She said, 'I think you'll like this. Take a look at the album.' And I looked at the album cover and realised, 'My God, they were stoners!' You could see it in their eyes... and then there's a song on the album called I'm Looking Through You."
