Ryan Gosling has stepped down from making his directorial debut with after failing to fit the project into his busy schedule.
The actor was set to step behind the camera for a remake of 1980 musical "The Idolmaker," based on the life of music promoter Bob Marcucci.
He was also planning to star in the new version, but his acting career has forced him to shelve his immediate directing dreams.
Instead, he has signed on to star in "The Place Beyond The Pines" with Bradley Cooper and "Gangster Squad," opposite Sean Penn.
Deadline.com reports that bosses at MGM Studio are still keen for the remake to go ahead with Gosling as director - they hope to convince the star have another look at the project when his schedule slows down.
