Cheryl Cole British pop star Cheryl Cole is at the center of a plagiarism battle amid allegations her hit single Fight For This Love was illegally copied from a demo track.

Executives at seven companies with an interest in the song, including music labels Universal, Sony and EMI, have joined forces to fight accusations from music publishers Wardlaw Banks and Peermusic that Cole's 2009 chart smash borrowed chunks from an unreleased demo called I Want You Back.

I Want You Back was composed in 2001 by Kevin Hughes, Simon Chapman and Wayne Wilkins, who also has a writing credit on Fight For This Love but allegedly claims he cannot remember his input into the earlier song.

Bosses at the seven firms have now obtained a High Court writ denying Fight For This Love infringes copyright, according to British newspaper The Sun.

A judge will now have to decide whether or not Cole's single copied the demo.
